Working with NGOs
My work with non-governmental organizations stretches back about 15 years when I began doing one-off copyediting jobs for Oxfam America, CARE, and Physicians for Human Rights. After earning my MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School in 2007, I began my NGO work in earnest. In 2009, I was hired as a senior writer by Management Sciences for Health, traveling to the field to write project proposals (USAID- and DfID-funded, for the most part). I left in 2013 to work full-time on a documentary film, which I completed in 2015 and which has been aired on more than 160 PBS stations. Since then, my NGO-related work includes writing, copy-editing and videography for Oxfam America; a digital slideshow for Oxfam/ Rockefeller Foundation; photography for WEEMA international; writing, photography, and videography for D-tree International; and several Boston-area pro bono projects. Most of my NGO work centers on maternal and child health. My in-country NGO experience includes Haiti, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Ethiopia, Tanzania/Zanzibar, Rwanda. Additionally, I have worked as a journalist in India, Turkey, and Ireland, and have visited and additional 20+ countries.
